Trish Fitzgibbons Anderson, MA LMFTMy therapeutic philosophy is based upon my beliefs about how people change. I hold an optimistic view of people and their ability to change, and my clients find the approach I use to be respectful and encouraging. It is effective with couples and families as well as with individuals. This approach allows me to collaborate with clients to help facilitate their growth and change processes. The reasons people seek counseling are many, but the reasons they choose - and stay with - a therapist, are few, but important. My clients describe them best:
My early training in Adlerian psychotherapy helped me create a foundation upon which to build my approach, which draws substantially from the cognitive behavioral therapy, systemic models and integrative problem-centered therapy. These models, like Adler’s, require a holistic view of the individual that takes into account the bio-psychosocial contexts, as well as his or her belief systems and world views. This integrative framework also allows for exploration of family of origin influences. Understanding (but not blaming) how we are shaped by our families and other important people and institutions can be a pivotal part of therapy with both individuals and couples. Biography My interest in psychology began in high school, when I took my first psychology course at the local community college. I chose the field of psychotherapy after working for several years in education, business and non-profit organizations. I opened my practice in 1997, following several years of training and post-graduate work in private group practice. Clients find that my experience in a wide range of industries and organizations provides me with unique perspectives and skills. |
